The situation
A growing AI platform with a small team, an offshore design group, and a roadmap that had drifted away from what customers were asking for. Every new screen was being designed and built from scratch.
What I did
- Built and led a tokenized design system in Figma and React, so designers and engineers worked from the same parts and could prototype in real time.
- Directed the offshore design team and taught them design systems practice.
- Ran generative interviews with HR and DEI leaders and turned them into a service blueprint that brought the roadmap back in line with customer needs. Used Kano analysis to decide what to build first.
- Designed the data visualizations and the client presentations for the product.
What changed
- Development cycles about 30% faster.
- The product evolved from a hiring tool into a full people-analytics platform.
- It won a 2023 SXSW Innovation Award, and Included was later acquired by Phenom.
